Henry Mitton
Henry Mitton is a versatile composer with an original, experimental musical language and broadcast-ready production. He is a pianist, singer, arranger, and producer.
Henry brings a fresh and distinct sound combined with a passion for scoring to all his projects, most recently the animated series Vida the Vet (Treehouse, Cbeebies), Mâdar (coming to theatres soon) and The Rhapsody (Hot Docs), as well as The Nature Of Things (CBC), Montreal Girls (LA International Film Festival) The Algorithm (Toronto Shorts International Film Festival), Cancelled (TSFF), Clockwork Seamstress (TSFF), Homage To A Talented Man (London Independent Film Festival), Red Sky On The Black Isle (CineMe), Project Wolf (XPO North) and many more spanning a decade-long career.
For his recent work on Vida the Vet (released in Canada on Treehouse and on Cbeebies in the UK), Henry took inspiration from the classic animated Disney movies and other timeless orchestral scores of the 20th century while injecting his unique brand of lush harmony and quirky instrumentation to create a contemporary and creative sound for the show. Each character has a unique theme and each episode gets a new motif, creating a fun and lively experience for kids and a nostalgic one for their parents.
Henry studied screen composition at the University of Bristol under the guidance of Martin Kiszko and William Goodchild (Jago: A Life Underwater, H2O: The Molecule That Made Us) and honed his production skills from Jonathan Scott (Portishead, Mark Knopfler). He studied conducting with Mark Heron (BBC Philharmonic) and orchestration with John Pickard.
Between 2019 and 2020, he worked as an Assistant to celebrated Canadian screen composer Rob Carli. Together, they worked on primetime shows such as Murdoch Mysteries, Frankie Drake and Fortunate Son. Henry has arranged for the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, the Hannaford Street Silver Band and The Lancaster Singers and won competitions run by the Grand Union Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of North London.
A British citizen and permanent resident of Canada, Henry lives in Toronto.
