Pierre-Yves Martel

Pierre-Yves Martel is a musician and composer based in Montreal, Canada. A multi-instrumentalist (viola da gamba, pedal steel guitar, double bass, modular synthesizers, harmonium), he specializes in the creation of sonic worlds both on stage and in the studio, where he handles all aspects of production. Blending the analog with the digital, signal with noise, the traditional with the experimental, Martel aims to make music that transcends genre and style to become utterly singular.

In addition to his work as a screen composer, Martel has released over 30 albums since 2006, ranging from renaissance to experimental music, as well as field recordings and soundscapes. He's also the resident composer for WEIRD STUDIES, an arts and philosophy podcast hosted by J.F. Martel and Phil Ford.
