We are excited to hold a new event that we’ve been working on for some time. The SCGC Screen Composer Summit will take place on Tuesday, September 12th at the Rivoli in Toronto just around the corner from TIFF, and will comprise a full day of unmissable education and networking opportunities.
The full schedule is as follows:
AWFC Film Music Mixer
10:00am to 12:30pm
The Alliance of Women Film Composers invites female identifying composers, and composers from underrepresented communities to join a networking brunch. Come and meet your fellow composers, as well as executives and movers and shakers who are in the screen music communities.
Presented with the generous support of SOCAN, the Composers Diversity Collective, Music Publishers Canada, Core Music Agency and the Canadian Film Centre.
Getting Down with AI
1:00 to 2:30pm | Free Admission
Five composers from across the career spectrum were given two AI music creation apps to test drive. In this panel we will hear their reflections on the workflow, process and dilemmas facing screen composers when they use AI. How can this help the composer workflow? What are the ethical concerns? Does this spell the end for the human composer?
This panel will feature composers Spencer Creaghan, Deanna Choi, Steph Copland, Tom Third and Kalaisan Kalaichevlan. Moderated by Darren Fung  and co-presented with the Canadian Film Centre.

Pitch ‘n’ Sync – How To Hone Your Pitch
4:30 – 7:30 pm | $15
SCGC members receive free admission with discount code: SCGCPitch
Have you ever wondered how to land a sync placement, a composing gig, or close a deal? It all starts with a pitch. Whether you’re pitching yourself, your song catalogue or your services as a creative in the music industry, this panel will have unmissable advice for you.
You will learn how to pitch your music, make new connections, and generate business opportunities. A limited number of participants will also have the chance to practice their pitches on industry professionals in a music business “speed dating” session.
The panelists are being finalized now and there will be a networking cocktail event to follow.
This panel is co-presented with Music Publishers Canada (MPC) and NXTGen, the City of Toronto Music Office, and the Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada(GMSC).
