SOCAN has published an FAQ addressing writer’s share royalties on audiovisual productions, SOCAN’s “50/50 rule”, and buyouts. The SCGC encourages all composers to read the statement (link below).

The statement provides composers and their representative with the facts they need to push back against any demand – either from a producer, its representative or a third party (such as a music house) – for participation by a non-writing party in the writer’s share of PR royalties.

SCGC hopes the FAQ will provide and empower members, and all Canadian screen composers, with the information needed to push back against unfair demands from producers, their representatives and third party intermediaries.
